Welcome! I'm so glad you're here!

But, why are you here? Why am I here? Why are any of us here?

I cannot answer the first nor the last question, but I'm here to edit stories, evaluate manuscripts, and write stories. But what the heck am I even talking about?

What is Developmental Editing?

I assume that you are more than capable of googling- considering you found your way to my little corner of the internet. According to Wikipedia :

A complete developmental edit involves addressing organization and restructuring the manuscript, such as moving content from one chapter to another and requesting additional content from the author.

So the good news, I'm not here to pick on your grammar- however, everyone needs a good copyeditor and I know a few if you're looking for references, but it's just not what gets my motor running. I love taking a manuscript apart and figuring out what makes it tick, strengthen character development and help authors get to the real heart of their work.

Developmental Editors come in at all stages of the writing process! It's all about when the author needs a trusted outside source to help make the story the best it can possible be. But what if they've just started?

What is a Manuscript Evaluation?

If an author has about 10-20K words and are unsure of how to progress, they've hit a wall, I offer what I call a Manuscript Evaluation.

I read through the draft, ignoring spelling, grammar, formatting (to a degree, if formatting is getting in the way of reading, I might offer some pointers) and offer some basic feedback and write a letter (like I would with a full developmental edit) offering some potential directions to take the stories, some questions to think about as they continue writing and of course, the offer of support in the future.

As I'm working on embracing my creativity in a big way- that I've sort of denied for the last decade or so- I'd also like to use this space to talk about:

  • Book Reviews

  • personal writing struggles

  • my dog

  • Diversity and Intersectionality in pop culture

  • Trope Deconstruction

  • Maybe some of my own writing

  • My dog

  • The creative process

  • And anything else you all might like to see or talk about!
